Founded in 1887, the 27 hole Kilmarnock Golf Club has had an illustrious history as an Open Championship qualifying venue as well as playing host to a number of R&A and PGA events including various Seniors and Ladies events plus the prestigious Boys Amateur Championship. Initially starting out as an 18 hole course, 9 new ones were added later. Barassie Links is the championship course of Kilmarnock Golf Club that incorporates nine of the original and the nine new holes.
The course itself is a mixture of old and new, although the quality of the layout is constant throughout. This emphasis on consistency reaches its peak on the greens, which are among the best playing surfaces you’ll find. With undulating fairways, blooming heather and punishing bunkers, it’s a true test of links golf. The recently refurbished clubhouse with all modern facilities is next to the Barassie train station.
