Featuring sweeping sea views from 19 of the 20 holes, The European Club is located in tumbling dunes just south of Dublin and very close to the sea to the extent that it is common to find players searching for their golf balls on the beach. The course pays a glowing tribute to the talent of its owner and creator, Pat Ruddy, with a layout that is challenging yet ultimately rewarding, provided golfers use their brain. Carved dunes, notoriously unforgiving rough, blustering winds and immaculate greens define the course.
The course features many unique design elements including bunkers with their walls lined with railway sleepers and the 127-yard longest green in Europe at hole twelve. The 12th, 13th, and 15th holes play alongside the beach, and the Par-4 seventh hole is ranked among the top 100 holes in the world. Golf's most admired champions have played the course with Tiger Woods holding the current record of 67. Often the air is saturated by mist from the sea, the dunes piling up, the winds whistles, and the golf experience is total.
