Oitavos Dunes Golf Course lies within the Sintra and Cascais Natural Park, set amongst pine woods and reforested dunes, in an area of great natural beauty. Designer Arthur Hills was extremely conscious of respecting the natural landscape and the species that it supports, and as such Oitavos has received many awards for its environmental awareness. Though not strictly a links course - the fairways are often bordered by woodland - Oitavos does have the sandy turf that makes seaside golf so special.
Being a seaside golf course, the ocean view is present all the time, although some of the more fantastic scenery comes from the Sintra Mountains and Cabo da Roca - Europe's most western point, seen from the 9, 10, 11 and 14 holes. The wind is an integral part of the golfing experience, mostly prevailing from the north, but can swing to blow off the sea. Oviatos’ 167 yards 14th hole rates as one the best par 3s in the world and when the wind is up can often play much longer than its stated length of suggests, making for a tough club selection.
