The late Seve Ballesteros, architect of Royal Obidos Golf Course, described the layout as a “great and wonderful place”. Measuring 7,318 yards from the back tees, this course is set to test even the most talented golfers but like any good resort course, a number of tee positions make the course accessible to a great variety of golfers. Several holes have lakes and streams, which in addition to being important hazards, it adds to the beauty of course.
The course is a stern test from the start, with the first hole being a challenging dogleg right which sets you up for an exciting stretch of holes to come overlooking the Óbidos lagoon. The signature second hole is played from a spectacular elevated tee within the woods and overlooks a fairly narrow fairway, guarded both by water on the left, and ‘S’ shaped bunkering (for Seve) on the right. The back nine lies in the central and southern section of the development, and navigate their between an ecosystem of lakes and streams.
