Course architect Pete Dye made sure that the incredible mountain and ocean scenery along the Chavon River would be a big part of the golfing experience on his eponymous course at the Casa de Campo luxury resort, and indeed nearly half of the holes are laid out overlooking the river valley. Nestled over the breathtaking valley - where scenes from Apocalypse Now were filmed - golfers enjoy cliff-side holes dropping 300 feet into the valley below.
The course also boasts 13 holes overlooking the Caribbean Sea, as well as breathtaking views of Altos de Chavón —a replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean village filled with top notch entertainment and shopping—and lush clifftop hills, challenging players with 40 mile-per-hour wind gusts. A couple of par 3 holes are particular standouts here, the 15th and 12th, both of which demand long carries across expanses of wilderness in order to reach greens that are defended by strategically placed bunkers.
